Pre-orders
A variant becomes a pre-order when it is out of stock but can still be sold. Its button reads Pre-order, and a note with the ship date shows under it and in the cart.
How to set it up
Step 1: Turn on pre-orders
- Open Theme settings > Pre-orders.
- Choose Pre-orders (1): every variant sold past zero stock, products tagged
pre-order, or off. - Set the Note without a ship date (2).
Step 2: Allow selling when out of stock
- In Shopify admin, open the product and, for each variant, turn on Continue selling when out of stock.
Step 3: Add a ship date (optional)
- Set the product metafield
custom.preorder_date(a date): the note then shows the expected ship date.
