Pre-orders

A variant becomes a pre-order when it is out of stock but can still be sold. Its button reads Pre-order, and a note with the ship date shows under it and in the cart.

How to set it up

Step 1: Turn on pre-orders

1. Open Theme settings > Pre-orders.
2. Choose Pre-orders (1): every variant sold past zero stock, products tagged pre-order, or off.
3. Set the Note without a ship date (2).

Step 2: Allow selling when out of stock

1. In Shopify admin, open the product and, for each variant, turn on Continue selling when out of stock.

Step 3: Add a ship date (optional)

1. Set the product metafield custom.preorder_date (a date): the note then shows the expected ship date.
